N’Djamena, Chad 28 April 2023 – In partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) has developed the Community Connect, an online Knowledge Management Platform that provides the most up-to-date essential knowledge and information while also strengthening conversation on the Lake Chad Region.

The Regional Strategy for the Stabilization, Recovery and Resilience of the Boko Haram affected areas launched in 2018 and called for the LCBC to establish an online Knowledge Management Platform (KMP) to serve three purposes: “(1) as the go-to source for news and information on all aspects of the stabilization, recovery and development effort around Lake Chad; (2) as a repository for assessment reports, lessons learnt and good practices, both regional and global; (3) as a dynamic tool for coordination and the networking of practitioners”.

[“It is vital that policymakers have access to reliable information to make sound decisions that address the challenges facing the Lake Chad Basin”, said Amb. Mamman Nuhu, Executive Secretary of LCBC and Head of Mission of MNJTF, “I call on us all to use the spaces dedicated to interaction to generate debates that will improve the resilience and living conditions of the people in the region”].

The platform, funded by the African Development Bank (AFDB) and supported by our partners: the German, Swedish, United Kingdom & Netherlands Governments, the European Union (EU) and UNDP, is built around the easy accessibility of relevant and trustworthy information about the Lake Chad region. Professionals have meticulously checked the information acquired to guarantee that people receive correct and up-to-date information.

[“The knowledge management platform serves as a storehouse for Lake Chad information; it will provide us with opportunities and resources to assist us in undertaking long-term actions that will benefit the region,"] said Dr Chika Charles Aniekwe, RS-SRR Coordinator.

The LCBC Community Connect looks to the online network of professionals, decision-makers, members of civil society, women and youth to advance regional strategy and hasten its accomplishment through meaningful online interaction with strategic initiatives.

[“We must engage young men and women, practitioners, academia, media, and influencers to

own this platform and encourage them to use their energy, creativity, and enthusiasm to devise

sustainable policies and solutions that will benefit the Lake Chad region,” said Ms Blerta Cela, Director, Regional Stabilization Facility. “Our hope is that the LCBC Community fulfills its mandate and continues to be the region's forerunner in knowledge management.”]

A diverse variety of stakeholders, including but not limited to local governments, civil society, media, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), UN agencies etc., collaborate directly with the RS-SRR Secretariat to improve development cooperation. The knowledge platform is expected to benefit these groups by allowing them to sign up for accredited online courses (open e-learning), access resources, and connect with a community of professionals to assist them with their activities in the region.

About the RS-SRR

In 2018, the Lake Chad Basin Commission, with support from the African Union and UNDP, launched a Regional Strategy for the Stabilization, Recovery, and Resilience (RS-SRR) for the Lake Chad Basin regions affected by the Boko Haram crisis: Cameroon (The Far North and North Region), Niger (Diffa Region), Nigeria: Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States) and Chad (Lac and Hajder-Lamis Provinces.

The RS-SRR seeks to establish a common approach and an inclusive framework for all stakeholders to support a timely, coordinated, and effective transition from stabilization to early recovery and the resumption of stalled development processes. It is anchored on commonalities while considering the peculiarities of each of the concerned states and addressing the root causes of the crisis in the region to enhance resilience.
